Bagged Ballast for Small Concrete Jobs

Mixed Ballast is a blend of sand and gravel used for making concrete when combined with cement and water. Supplied in a manageable 20kg bag, it is ideal for smaller concrete jobs around the garden, home or building site.

This bagged ballast is commonly used for setting posts, creating small concrete bases, repairs, shed bases and general landscaping work.

We supply across Bradford, Bingley, Shipley, Keighley and surrounding West Yorkshire areas.

    Choosing the Right Sand or Ballast

    Different sands and aggregates are used for different types of building and landscaping jobs. Yellow Building Sand is a finer, softer sand, most commonly used for mortar mixes, bricklaying, blockwork, pointing and general repair work. It mixes well with cement to create a workable mortar.

    Sharp Sand is coarser and grittier, making it better suited to bedding paving slabs, laying blocks, improving drainage and some concrete mixes. It is often used where a firmer, less smooth mix is needed.

    Ballast is a mixed aggregate made up of sand and gravel. When combined with cement and water, it is used to make concrete. It is commonly used for small concrete bases, setting posts, repairs and general outdoor building jobs.

    For most simple jobs: use building sand with cement for mortar, sharp sand for paving and bedding work, and ballast with cement for concrete.
